Open Water Fishing:
Come fish with us east of the Penobscot River, which is known as the Downeast area of Maine. This area has lots of ponds, lakes and streams to be fished.
Trolling streamer flies is one of Maine’s fishing traditions. Early spring trolling for Landlocked Salmon and Trout. Troll for Togue (Lake Trout) and other fish through the summer and fall months.
You can catch brook trout and some brown trout from the first of April to the end of June, and then again in mid September when the waters start to cool off to the end of October.
When the waters start to warm by the end of May to mid June, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass start to thrive. Both of these fish are fun to catch, especially on a fly rod.
Bass fishing is the way to go during the months of July and August. Most Bass are in the shallows and can be readily caught on surface poppers. Occasionally you can pick up a few fish from the Pike family. These also can be fun to catch on a fly rod or spinning gear, but watch out for the sharp teeth.
Full day and half day Fishing Trips are available in the spring and summer and into the fall. Fishing Trips are limited to 2 anglers. Fly or spinning gear provided, or bring your own.
Fly fishing and tying classes are also available – call for information on the classes.
Ice Fishing:
Come and try ice fishing from the ice-in or January 1st through March 31st. Ice conditions can vary, with the thickness being between 16″ and 30″. This time of year can be very cold, but if you dress for it you’ll have no problems.
Trout, Bass, Perch and Pickerel are the most sought after fish during the winter months. Your Guide will drill holes for a day of fishing through the ice. Then he will give you instruction on how to set up your fishing lines, or you can jig if you prefer.
Depending on what the ice is like, you may also get in some skating while you are fishing. This will help keep the young people busy while they are waiting for the fish to cooperate! Ask your Guide what the conditions of the ice are before you go so you know whether to bring your skates or not.
Your Guide Dave will provide warm food and drink for your day out on the ice. We will gather wood for a warming fire and to cook our meal on. So don’t pass up ice fishing just because it is cold! With proper help from your Guide you can have a great time out on the ice. It’s a great way to shake cabin fever!
