Christmas is past us now and another new year is just around the corner. This past year was a busy one with being outdoors as much as one could be.

Corey and I went and climbed Mt Katahdin. We made it to the top. This was the second time for me. The last time was 25 or so years ago. I was about his age when I did it back then.

Bow hunted and shot my first turkey with a bow this year (that was a hoot).

Did a lot of fishing for LL Salmon, Trout, Large & Smallmouth Bass. I had sports from all across the US and Canada.

I spent the best part of 60 days in the woods this past deer season. Did see some deer but none tagged.

So with this new year coming, ice fishing will be the start and the ice is not that great at this time. So please check ice conditions before you venture out onto a lake or pond.

And with this being said I wish all a Happy and Safe New Year!!

Fall is here and hunting season has started.

Bear season is in full swing at this time. Bow hunting for deer starts the end of this month and goes thru to the end of October. Then we have a turkey season for about 2 weeks the middle of Oct.. This turkey season is with a bow only. You can pick up you new hunting/trapping law books at this time. You can get them from any license agent or the Dept. IF/W. Or go online http://www.maine.gov/ifw/hunting_trapping/hunting/index.htm .

I will be doing a few more fishing trips till the end of Oct. or till the weather gets so bad that I cannot get the boat in the water. Should be able to catch a few fall salmon and brown trout, and maybe a few other trout species. The fishing this time of year will be trolling only.

What ever you do in the outdoors have a safe fall.

Fishing has been a bit slow this past weekend. I think it had something to do with it being the 4th of July. Lots of boating and fishing pressure. But have been able to catch a few fish. Water temps are getting up into the high 70′s. This is surface temp.

Browns and LL Salmon are hitting trolling lures and flies. About any of the thin trolling lures work well. I have had very good luck with a trolling fly that I tie and use. It is a tandem fly and I call it the “DGS Special”. Sewn on bait also works well. I prefer smelts if I can get them.

Large and small mouth bass are hitting also. They like about anyof the Sanko’s, tube lures and pretty much anything that swims by.

If interested in a fishing trip give me a call. Will hook you up!!

Spring turkey season was a good time this year. I did manage to shoot a turkey with a bow this year. The first day I had 6 birds come out to me. The first one was a hen that came out to my calling first thing in the morning. Then towards 11am I had 5 jakes come to the decoys. I let an arrow fly at one of the biggest jakes and that didn’t go so well. It was a clean miss. The second day out I had 2 other birds come in but out of bow range. The first Friday of the season I went with a friend to hunt. About 8 am we had 4 birds come into our decoy area. I told him when he see me draw my bow that he should do the same and he did. I let 2 birds go by me so he could get a chance on a bird. I let my arrow fly and after all of the feathers and birds cleared I had mine on the ground. I asked if he got one and he told me no that they would not hold still enough so that he could get a good shot.

I did not hear any birds gobbling the first few days of hunting. I talked to other hunters and they said the same thing. It was hard when you cannot hear the birds gobble to be able to find them. But in the long run I did get my bird and my friend got his the next week.
